The big trip of the year saw 14 divers take the long trip up to the Orkneys stopping at two locations.
Six stopping at Russell's house and the eight at Overscapa cottage approximatly half a mile apart.
First dive on Sunday was to be in Kirkwell bay as the prevailing south winds prevented diving in Scapa bay, the HMS Endevour was the target with my buddys target being the resident lobster. Everyone had a good dive with the exception of my buddy who did manage to get his lobster but lost his wieght belt in return.
Back at Overscapa cottage the resident chiefs had been working hard and supplied us with a gourmet feast , altough the head chef seemed to have been on the piss all day and didn't have any room for food himself. The evenigs entertainment was supplied by our new club maseur who apparantly has magic fingers.
Monday saw gale force winds altough a few mad souls managed to get out to the block ships and Tuesday was pretty much the same so we took a trip up to Stomness to look round the dive shops and try a few beers.
Wednsday the wind had droped a little so we made for the German wrecks, SMS Karlsrue was our first dive of the day and congratulations go out to our youngest diver on the expedition who sucessfully navigated the wreck with our club D.O. well done Jake!
Second dive of the day was a scallop hunt with everyone coming up with bags full especially Adrians who conned Jake into filling his bag first.
Back to Russells for dinner with a Halloween theme altough Santa got confused and made a guest apperance.
Thursday the winds returned and diving was called off, so Steve and Kev spent the day in Kirkwell while the rest of the crew went on Nobby's guided island tours.
Friday and the winds were favourable so it was time to do the big wrecks, six divers went out on the Avalanche to dive the SMS Kronprinz Wilhelm a huge battleship in about 40m of water, while four more divers went out to the SMS Karlsrue for a second dive.
Back to Russels place to clean the boats and kit down ready for an early start the next morning and a tiring 16 hour journey back home.
All in all a great week, special thanks to Russ for putting up with us again and also thanks to Adrian and Adam for organising the trip.
